This book is for the radical, the unpredictable, the fringe minority, the nonlinear thinker, sidelined by the previous dispensation because you didn’t think like everyone else. Now is your time. Amidst the chaos of this age, you are perfectly prepared to take the lead. Lead us through the chaos, lead us to a place that many think is impossible. This book covers a wide range of insights and tools not usually covered in leadership books.
We live in a time when things feel totally unpredictable and out of control. There seems to be no clear link between what you do and what happens. It’s like a storm where you must act fast. The old rules or patterns don’t seem to apply.
And yet, a new kind of leader is arising to lead us through this time.
Becoming a Master of the Chaos:
Leading through chaos;
Jonathan Baynes is no stranger to chaos. Whether navigating the political aftermath of apartheid, restructuring billion-dollar institutions, or helping First Nations reclaim economic control from federal systems, his career has been shaped by disruption—and by how leaders respond to it.
Jonathan has spent the last three decades leading organizations through high-stakes transformation across three continents. Over the past three decades, Jonathan has worked with some of the world’s top universities and public institutions, helping communities and organizations navigate complexity and emerge stronger. Among First Nations his contributions have been honoured with an eagle feather—one of the highest recognitions in many Indigenous cultures for sacred and trusted service.
His work focuses on rebuilding trust, decentralizing control, and making complex systems human again. Jonathan’s approach to leadership in chaos draws from real-world experience: from working on South Africa’s first democratic election after apartheid, to surviving an immigration system breakdown that left him nearly homeless.
Educated in theology, business, and education, Jonathan blends strategic thinking with grounded wisdom. He has consulted for UBC, IBM, Alberta Health Services, Kings College London, the MET Police London, and multiple First Nations across Canada.
This book is the culmination of a life spent in the trenches of real change—leading through chaos, not avoiding it. Jonathan’s passion is helping others become the kind of leaders this disruptive age demands: resilient, principled, and deeply rooted in something larger than themselves.
